Hotel Mandarin Oriental
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is one of the jewels of the Parisian hotel industry. The Mandarin Oriental owes its exceptional architecture in part to its location in a historic, listed building dating from the 1930s.
Star architect Jean-Michel WILMOTTE oversaw the renovation of this former office building, whose interior spaces span eight floors. Today, this exceptional hotel has established itself as a showcase of French good taste, with a unique and successful blend of Art Deco style and Oriental charm.
The Renovation of the Mandarin Oriental: The Transformation of an Office Building into a Contemporary Luxury Hotel
One might not immediately think of an office building as the ideal location for a luxury hotel. Yet that was precisely the challenge that architect Jean-Michel WILMOTTE and PLENDI by VINCI Construction took on together to create the Mandarin Oriental Paris in 2011. An exceptional project in an exceptional location: the luxury hotel is situated in the heart of the capital’s haute couture district, at 251 Rue Saint-Honoré.
The architect made use of the existing buildings—which had to be preserved as they were listed—to transform them into a 5-star luxury hotel. Today, the Mandarin Oriental offers contemporary, stylish luxury and a magnificent view of Paris from the terraces of its suites.
Only one of the original buildings was demolished to create a vast interior space by connecting two existing courtyards, allowing for the creation of an interior patio and bringing abundant natural light into the hotel. The 1930s façade facing Rue Saint-Honoré, meanwhile, has been fully preserved and restored. It is this façade that largely gives the Mandarin Oriental its monumental style.
